Finally watching the Amiga part of revision 2021. I really like the dancing polygon guys.

I'm reminded this morning of the developers who wanted compact identifiers for something, and then rejected UUID because they were too large. Turns out, they couldn't tell the difference between the 16 Bytes you need to store one, and the 32 Byte hex representation (without dashes).

Instead, they opted for 32 Byte ed25519 pubkeys, despite not needing cryptography here at all, and using the base58 representation of them.

I'm still struggling to understand the logic here, several years later.

is there a good book/course on "linux fundamentals"?
i am capable enough with linux to use it but there are a lot of concepts I don't actually understand, for example: permissions (users, groups, file permissions), networking, and key management (ssh, gpg).
i know to do all the things, but only by memorization, scripts and habits, not because i actually understand them. is there some central place to learn about it all? like a de facto "introduction to linux"?

Req for help w/mental health:

I need psychotherapy. Urgently. :_catsad:

The cheapest price I could find (35€ a session) is still too much for me, and I need several.

If you can help, I'll be very grateful for anything you can spare my way.

From 3€ as a sole donation to 3€ a month on my ko-fi, every bit counts & makes a huge difference!

If you have the means, please help me. Boosts are also very welcome! :blobcatheart: Ty!!!

Dr. Kuaikuai Duan and others at GSU found that individuals with worse symptoms (fever, needing oxygen) ended up with reduced frontal-temporal gray matter volume.

Alterations of frontal-temporal gray matter volume associate with clinical measures of older adults with COVID-19

There are days where I really want to share every aspect of my work life, but NDAs make it absolutely impossible.

Suffice to say that doing tech due diligence is like shining a flash light through a small hole into a deep, dark room. You see enough creepy crawlies to give you mild shudders, you get a sense of the size of the room, and that lets you extrapolate...

Sometimes, the result is frightening

Don't forget: today starting at 14:00 check out our live installation & demonstration of #mastodon and #peertube for the European Data Protection Supervisor & other EC-institutions. Also #immers and #drupal (which is already used for most EU-websites like are ready to be shown off as decentralized & federating tech public services should use. Want to join in? ->

Does anyone of my hardware wrangling folk here have experience with the USB serial connection to an NXP Freeway LS1012a board? Connecting from Linux?

The TL;DR is, there are no kernel events that would announce a new USB device when plugging the thing in.

My best guess is that something in U-Boot is b0rked and wants to run the USB in host mode? But I have no evidence for that..

If it helps, the D2 LED is one which doesn't happen on another board where USB serial works.

Boosts appreciated!

Hi I’m warriorstar. I write code and do a bunch of other stuff badly. I like the world and its history and old stuff. I listen to all kinds of music and love to travel.

Say hi, I really am trying to find cool people on here.

Time for another biased poll.

Do you know what CC and BCC stand for in eMail without having to look it up?

I would appreciate it if you boosted this toot. :-)

Surprise, surprise.

Danke 🥰

For those who missed it, thoughts on the coming merging of science fiction and science fact...

Yesterday I have upgraded the server to keep up with the growing demand.

Per day between 2000 and 45000 users are using the platform and that requires computer power that is not free unfortunately. The server bill is now higher than ever and over €400 per month.

Please think about helping me out <3
